[Breukelen near Water World]



Home of 11th Century Medieval Castles, with both old and new History, this picture-book village is a short bus ride from Amsterdam and Volendam. A friendly and enthusiastic worker on the bus encouraged me to stop and see a shop where wooden shoes are made and simply to enjoy the bucolic beauty. When I later tried to describe where I'd been, I was told "Breukelen near Water World". I felt I was in a painting by the Dutch masters.
