The Dakota

[Close-up, The Dakota]

Originally built for the spacious comfort on New Yorkers far from the madding city (which ended around 14th Street at the time), this ode to the Dakotas lifestyle has been home to Leonard Bernstein, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and many other legends. This is where John Lennon lived-- and where he was shot to death in 1980, by Mark David Chapman. Gone was a shining light and a generation's remaining hope for a Beatles reunion.
