Maui: Beneath Mt. Haleakala

This image is on the road to the top of Mt. Haleakala, one of the world's tallest volcanos. This is so high in the air that the grass has a hard time getting enough sunlight and oxygen to turn green. (This is scanned from a slide and the color is very accurate). The cows don't seem to mind much of anything, and bikers love to fly down the volcano. My favorite traffic sign is right around here. It says "Turn on Headlights in Clouds".
